As “Deal Or No Deal” AXED, Banker Revealed As Ex-Coronation Street Star

Deal Or No Deal was axed from Channel 4 after 11 years earlier this week – and now the mystery identity of the Banker has been revealed.corriHosted by Noel Edmonds, the gameshow involved a contestant opening sealed boxes containing amounts ranging from 1p to £250,000. Meanwhile, a mysterious man – called the Banker – would call the contestant and offer them money to stop the game.

And now, that mysterious man’s identity has been revealed, as he’s been made redundant thanks to Channel 4’s cancelling Deal Or No Deal.

The Banker is called Glenn Hugill, and he has worked on the series alongside Noel since it launched 11 years ago. The 45-year-old actor starred in Coronation Street during the 1990s when he played policeman Alan McKenna – the boyfriend of hairdresser Fiona Middleton, played by Angela Griffin.

In 2005, he went on to sign a contract with production company Endemol to work on a then unknown show called Deal or No Deal. When the series became a bigger success than anyone anticipated, Glenn decided to give up his presenting and acting career to focus on the show full-time, determining the financial offers to tempt contestants away from playing the game until the end, which could see them walk home with a cash price of £250,000.
