Brave Katie Piper has opened up about the latest heartbreak for her family. The brave TV presenter, who is an acid attack survivor, has spoken about her mum’s cancer battle and the effect it has had on her family. Katie was shocked when she found out about her mum’s diagnosis, but it has spurred her on to help the fundraising event Stand Up to Cancer.
Diane used to work as a primary school classroom assistant, but quit the job to become a full-time carer for her daughter following her brutal attack. Katie revealed that her beloved mum, who helped her through her acid attack recovery, was diagnosed with the disease three years ago.
She told Digital Spy: “My mum has cancer. It started as primary and then spread secondary to her liver. She’s had quite a lot of surgery and chemo, she fought it and it came back and she fought it again, and now she’s having checks. So far, so good.”
She added: “It’s been such a gruelling three years though. It really takes it out of you. It changes your outlook on life too.” Katie is using her platform to help fundraise for research by joining forces for the annual event this October.
