BREAKING: A massive fire breaks out at Wimbledon’s tennis courts
Up to 20 firefighters were called to SW19 after an area of shrubbery caught alight at the All England Tennis Club around 12.33pm.
The fire broke out just weeks before tennis greats such as Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Sir Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic will hit Centre Court to contest the third Grand Slam of the year.
The fire brigade have confirmed that four fire engines and 21 firefighters were dispatched to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club,A hedge appears to have caught light close to the courts, with bystanders capturing the incident with photographs posted on social media.
The London Fire Brigade wrote on Twitter: “Four fire engines are currently attending reports of a fire in the practice court area of the All England Tennis Club.”
The brigade issued a statement on their website which read: “Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers have been called to reports of a fire in the practice court area of the All England Tennis and Croquet Club on Church Road in Wimbledon.
