An “explosion” has sparked a huge fire in a tower block in south London this afternoon.Witnesses report an ‘explosion’ sparking the terrifying blaze in Brixton, although the official cause has not yet been determined.
Firefighters were called to Canterbury Crescent at 1.39pm. According to the London Fire Brigade, 10 fire engines and 72 firefighters are at the scene.
One nearby resident said on social media: “Bloody hell, just seen the smoke from my window. Just opened my window and I can still smell it. I hope everyone’s OK and no-one’s homeless as a result of that.”
Another posted a photo of a plume of smoke and said: “Bloody hell, massive fire somewhere north of Brixton.” There have been no reports of any injuries at this stage and it is unknown if the building has been evacuated.
