Fifteen To One presenter William G Stewart has died after a brief illness. He was 84. His agent, Julia Wyatt, confirmed he passed away ‘peacefully’ and surrounded by his family on Thursday. Wyatt said in a statement: ‘Sadly William G Stewart passed away peacefully this morning surrounded by his family after a brief illness.’
Stewart, who was a former Butlins redcoat, fronted the classic Channel 4 game show from 1988 to 2003. He also produced and directed sitcomes such as Bless This House and Love Thy Neighbour. Stewart also worked on ITV shows Family Fortunes and The Price Is Right.
Each episode of the quiz programme, dubbed one of the toughest quizzes on TV, would start with 15 contestants who were given three ‘lives’ and asked general knowledge questions. They would lose a life for each incorrect answer or failure to respond within three seconds. He married his third wife Laura Calland, who was a voice-over artist on Fifteen To One, in 1997.
