A plane has overshot a runway, crashing into a main road causing massive delays of Ryanair flights. The Boeing 737-400 cargo aircraft had flown from Paris’s Charles de Gaulle airport when it slid off the runway at Bergame-Orio al Serio in Bergamo, near Milan, Italy at 4am local time (3am BST).
Dramatic photos show the front of the plane crashing through a road barrier onto a highway busy where cars were battling heavy rain. The crew – which consisted of two pilots – managed to escape unscathed.
At the moment it is unclear whether any drivers on the road were injured or any cars hit. The ASL Airlines Hungary flight QY7332 had been charterered by logistics company DHL.
Operations at the airport resumed at 6.47am local time (5.47am BST), but many Ryanair flights have been cancelled or delayed. Those flying with the airline are advised to check with the company before setting out.
