A pipe bomb has caused a primary school to be evacuated on the first day of the new term.St Paul’s Primary School in Belfast was put in lock-down after the explosive was found in the nearby Beechmount area.
The evacuated children have been safely brought to the nearby Mica Day Centre, while St Paul’s Parish Centre is also assisting.
The package was discovered by bin men in a nearby alley at approximately 9am. Bomb disposal experts and Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) officers are now at the scene.
As well as a bomb disposal robot, a sniffer dog has also been rushed to the area to assist with the operation.
