A British holidaymaker has been killed after being mowed down by a van while jogging with a friend in Majorca. The 62-year-old, named locally as Hillary Jennings, died instantly after she was hit as she crossed a busy road at 8.30am today in the north east of the island. A doctor and paramedics desperately tried to revive Mrs Jennings at the scene, but they were unable to save her.
A spokesman for the Civil Guard refused to comment on how the accident happened, but said: “I can confirm a 62-year-old British woman has died after being run over by a vehicle on the road between Alcudia and Puerto Pollensa. I cannot at this stage make any comment on the possible causes.”
It is believed Mrs Jennings and her friend had been running along the Ma-2220 road between Alcudia and Puerto Pollensa. They were on the edge of a cycle lane along a busy two-lane road before deciding to cross by a restaurant called C’An Cuarassa.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, which was involved in the incident, stopped and was tested for drink and drugs at the scene.
