Christmas Shopping Horror As High Street Evacuated After Bus Bursts Into Flames

1buFirefighters were forced to evacuate a busy high street in southwest London after a fire engulfed a double-decker bus. Pictures on social media showed the back of the double-decker in flames.

Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to the blaze on the 371 bus near the Guildhall/Rose Theatre stop on Kingston’s High Street just after 9am. The London Fire Brigade said the driver escaped before crews arrived. The fire was brought under control just after 10am and the cause is unknown.

London Ambulance Service staff were at the scene to treat people for possible smoke inhalation, Metropolitan Police said. A spokesman added: “Local residents have been evacuated as a safety precaution. The road remains closed. Motorists are advised to avoid the area.”
