A London train station was evacuated after a “police incident” this evening, sparking panic and confusion among commuters.Armed police descended on the city centre station at around 7pm and ordered an immediate evacuation of the commuter hub. Confused commuters, many of whom were waiting for a train home to Essex, wrote of panic and frustration on Twitter. One said: “Some kind of emergency at Fenchurch Street Station in London at the moment.”
Another added: “Armed police everywhere and were being evacuated from c2c at Fenchurch street – what the hell is going on?”
Photos showed rows of police cars outside the busy station – located not far from the Walkie Talkie, a popular tourist attraction. c2c Rail, who operate routes to the station, said in a statement: “Due to the police dealing with an incident at Fenchurch Street services are currently delayed.”
British Transport Police also said they were dealing with an “incident” – although did not specify. Train journeys scheduled to pass through the station were delayed, with some still remaining.
