A 14-year-old girl has been raped after she was dragged into bushes as she left Asda. The young victim was going to collect her bicycle after visiting the store in Barrhead, East Renfrewshire, when she was attacked at around 8.15pm on Sunday. Police said the suspect was in the shop prior to carrying out the “traumatic” attack, and officers said they are following a “definite line of enquiry”.
He is described as white, aged between 20 and 30 years old and of medium build. He was wearing a white trilby style hat, a grey zipped top with white striped sleeve and grey jogging style trousers with grey coloured trainers. He was also carrying an over-sized black holdall bag.
Detectives are continuing to carry out their investigation and are scouring local CCTV footage in a bid to find the child rapist.
Detective Inspector Gillian Patrick said: “This was a particularly traumatic experience for the young girl concerned, who had been out in the local area before being attacked … We know the man was in the shop prior to the incident taking place and I am appealing to anyone who may have been shopping around that time to think about whether they may have seen this man or noticed anything suspicious.”
