British Transport Police have thanked a passenger who jumped onto the tracks at Tottenham Court Road station to save the life of an ill man who had fallen onto them.Just before 5pm yesterday, a 47 year old man – who can be seen in CCTV images wearing a hard hat and high visibility jacket – suddenly fainted and fell onto the live tracks at the station.
Without hesitation, a bystander risked his own life to save him – jumping straight onto the tracks and pulling the man to safety.
The man who fell was treated by paramedics at the scene before being taken to hospital. He received cuts and bruises but will make a full recovery. British Transport Police officers said if the bystander hadn’t intervened so quickly, the man could have been killed.
Superintendent Chris Horton said: “Going onto the tracks is extremely dangerous but the bravery of this man has to be praised … the quick thinking of him and other passengers on the platform avoided what could have been a tragedy … I’d like to commend this man for his brave actions – his quick thinking most likely saved the man’s life.”
