A man clad in combat gear attempted to snatch a three-year-old girl as she played on a BEACH with her family in Cornwall.Police have warned holidaymakers to be on high alert after the attempted abduction from idyllic Perranporth – a tourism hotspot in Cornwall.
The snatcher was seen trying to “lead a young child” away from the sands on Monday. He was only stopped when a woman intervened and the man quickly fled. The same man was spotted lurking in the same clothing at nearby Trevellas beach in St Agnes two days before.
Sergeant Marc Sayers, from Truro police, said: “There was an incident involving a young child last Monday. We have third hand information that a male wearing a hat and combat clothing was seen trying to lead a young child off Perranporth beach. The male was challenged and then ran off. No further incidents have been reported.
“We are making enquiries into the report, and I would ask anyone with information regarding the incident from Monday, or who has further information to pass on to contact us. We would like to remind parents to remain alert but not alarmed, and to call us should they feel anyone is acting suspiciously.”
