A paedophile was found with a missing five-year-old girl who had vanished from a park.Trevor Hughes, 66, was spotted walking from behind a leisure centre with the girl by the child’s frantic mum in the Bootle area of Liverpool. The mum had enlisted the help of neighbours to join the search after she disappeared from the park.
Hughes was jailed for 12 months yesterday at Liverpool Crown Court for breaching an order which prevents him from being with children unsupervised. The Liverpool Echo reports the court was told that since the incident the girl has had nightmares and “wakes up screaming”.
A neighbour confronted Hughes, of Knowsley Road in Bootle, who said he had bought the girl bubbles as a gift as he had spoken to her previously and knew she’d had a recent birthday. It transpired Hughes had been jailed for two-and-a-half years in June 2013 for possessing indecent images of children and sexually assaulting a girl he had groomed.
By being alone with the girl he had breached an indefinite Sexual Offences Prevention Order imposed at the time, the court was told. Hughes was jailed for 12 months for breaching the order.
