Shoppers at a south London Debenhams department store have seen a man plunge to his death from the upper floor of the shop.Staff were seen in tears leaving the shop in Sutton this afternoon, which is located in the St Nicholas Shopping Centre. They have been interviewed by police officers, who said that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.
One shopper said: “I still am shocked my children were with me and saw what happened. I was helping my daughter try some shoes when the lady came and said can you please tell your son ‘don’t watch’. When I saw my son watching I felt really bad I didn’t know what to say. He said to me I will have nightmares tonight. I’m trying to do the best for him to forget.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesman said that a man had fallen from height inside the store. Surrey, Kent and Sussex Air Ambulance workers were also called to the scene.
Speaking to the Sutton Guardian, one worker said that “somebody had jumped from the top floor of the building”.
