Detectives believe the man and his accomplice “targeted” a man who was in the nursery at the time but is not a member of staff.
Police are investigating after a man who appeared to be carrying a gun entered a nursery in Liverpool on Wednesday morning looking for another man.
Officers responded to reports that a man, said to be holding what “appeared to be a firearm”, came in to Childsplay Nursery, on Heathfield Road in Wavertree shortly after 8.10am.
Police say he approached another man in the nursery, before leaving with a second man on a motorbike.
Detectives believe the pair had “targeted” a man who was in the nursery at the time but is not a member of staff.
“No-one is reported to have been injured and there are no reports a firearm was discharged,” police said.
Police have stayed at the nursery to reassure parents and children, while forensics specialists investigate the scene.
House-to-house inquiries are being carried out in the area and high visibility patrols have been stepped up to reassure the public.
Detective Chief Inspector John Webster, of Merseyside Police, said: “We believe it was targeted and that the men were looking for a man who was in the nursery at the time who is not a member of staff.
