A police officer and his wife have been killed and their three-year-old son was taken hostage in Paris by a man reportedly shouting “Allah Akbar”.The attacker took the hostages in the policeman’s home in Magnanville, northwest of the French capital. Police sources have claimed the unnamed killer had pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State during the frenzied attack.
The officer, identified by local media as 42-year-old commander Jean-Baptiste Salvaing, was stabbed nine times outside his property after returning home at around 9pm.
The suspected killer tweeted he had also killed the commander’s wife, triggering a raid by police, according to local media. 12 officers from the elite ‘RAID’ police arrived at the scene after the Mr Salvaing’s neighbours raised the alarm. The assailant shouted he was holding hostages and barricaded himself in the home.
Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet confirmed the 42-year-old’s wife was killed by the attacker. He said: “This commander, this police officer was killed by the individual and we discovered the body of a woman.” M Brandet confirmed “police have managed to rescue a child from the scene” after they had gunned down the murderer.
