A young man is in a critical condition in hospital after his foot was “blown off” when he stepped on a device in New York’s Central Park.Connor Golden, 18, was climbing on rocks with two pals when apparently stepped on a device, which then exploded underneath him. Horrific images have emerged showing the teenager being rushed to hospital by paramedics after suffering serious injuries. Ambulance sources told the New York Post he was transported away from the scene with a severed left foot.
Explosives experts were called to the world famous attraction at just before 11am local time today after witnesses reported a sound “like a cannon going off”. The teenager was in town alongside two pals, who are now being interviewed by officers who are trying to establish how the tragedy occurred.
Eyewitnesses said the three men were climbing a rock structure in the park when the explosion went off, with one reporting Mr Golden suffered a “severed foot” and others saying he had lost part of his leg.
Paramedics have said that the victim is in a “critical condition” and is facing a “possible amputation” of part of his left leg. The area was cordoned off and a sniffer dog was sent into the rock formation to search for explosives.
