The M62 motorway has been closed between junctions 20 and 21 after reports of a seven-vehicle collision.Long queues of traffic are expected in both directions from the scene of the collision at junction 21 for Milnrow, near Rochdale. Westbound traffic is being affected, although police said vehicles involved in the smash ended up on the opposite carriageway.
The air ambulance has landed at the scene to treat casualties, according to reports. It has been confirmed that one man was killed and ten other people injured in the accident. Emergency services are at the scene, with westbound traffic being held and a rolling road block in force.
North West Motorway Police described the incident as ‘serious’ and urged drivers and passengers in trapped traffic to stay in their vehicles. Congestion as a result of the smash is back to Rochdale and beyond.
