Three women wearing burkas have been gunned down dead after launching a frenzied knife attack on police at a police HQ.No group has claimed responsibility for the attack on Mombasa Central Police Station on the Kenyan coast. Two police officers have reportedly been injured.
Police say the women walked into the police station, telling officers they wanted to report a crime, but one of the women pulled a knife on officers and another threw a petrol bomb – starting a fire.
An al-Qaida off-shoot al Shabab is known to operate in the region. The terror group has promised attacks on Kenya due to its military presence in Somalia.
“While being questioned by officers, one drew a knife and the other threw a petrol bomb at the police officers,” Patterson Maelo, Mombasa County Police Commander, told reporters at the scene. The station caught fire. Police shot the three and killed them. Two officers are in hospital with wounds. Presumably it is a terror attack.”
