A 10-year-old boy has been killed in an accident on the world’s tallest water slide.Caleb Schwab died on Verruckt, a 168-foot tall slide that has 264 stairs leading to the top and drops riders at 65 mph. The slide is the main attraction at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Kansas City, Missouri.
The park was closed after the tragic incident on Sunday as an investigation into the cause of Caleb’s death continues. “We honestly don’t know what’s happened,” a spokesperson for Schlitterbahn said. Verruckt – meaning “insane” in German – has been confirmed as the world’s tallest water slide by Guinness World Records.
Caleb’s father is Scott Schwab, a Republican member of the Kansas House of Representatives. “Since the day he was born, he brought ab4undant joy to our family and all those he came in contact with,” his family said in a tribute.
In a statement, the water park said it was “saddened” by Caleb’s death. “Given that safety is our first priority, we have closed the Kansas City park today and Monday and have closed the ride pending a full investigation.
