Rush Hour Smash – Three-Mile Tailback As Lorry Ploughs Into Motorway Bridge

An HGV has ploughed into a bridge on the M74 after its trailer came loose causing travel chaos. The smash occurred around 7.20am this morning on the northbound carriageway between junction 5 Raith and junction 4 Maryville.

A source said it was a B&M lorry. It is not known whether anyone has been injured. Police officers and a road recovery team raced to the scene to clear the vehicle. Two lanes were closed and three-mile queues stretched beyond junction 6 at Hamilton.

It comes just weeks after a huge B&M truck smashed into the crossing the the footbridge on Bellshill Road in Motherwell.
