The mum of a 12-year-old boy who died after falling to his death from a rope swing has paid tribute to her ‘amazing’ son.Ethan Rainey, 12, died after the accident at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, on the River Dee, in Wrexham, north Wales. Friends tried to save Ethan by performing CPR at the scene but he died a short time later.
Mum Tammie Brady-Rainey, 38, described her son as ‘full of character and life’ as a lasting memorial was unveiled to the schoolboy. A memorial bench has now been installed as a lasting tribute in the Trevor estate where Ethan loved to play with his friends.
Tammie said: “Every mother would say this but Ethan was just full of character. All the cards we had after he died said he had a real spark. From the moment he woke up every day he was just full of life. He wouldn’t let anyone pass the house without stopping them to say hello … I think he needs to be remembered and people around us have been just amazing.”
An inquest into Ethan’s death was held in February. Coroner John Gittins returned a conclusion of accidental death.
