A teenager who was found hanging in her locked bedroom posted “death is near” on social media just before she died.Saima Kaduji, 14, had been having problems with another pupil at school according to her headteacher, but an inquest heard there was no hard evidence to confirm this. She also updated her profile information to read “give up” in the days before her death.
The schoolgirl, who went to Bolton Muslim Girls School, was discovered by police officers at 11.30am after they barged down her bedroom door at her family’s home in on February 28. After being found unresponsive, she was rushed to died Royal Bolton Hospital but died shortly after.
Her mother and father told the inquest at Bolton Coroner’s Court their eldest daughter was “happy child” who had not told them about any issues or problems she had been having.
But Saima had a secret life online, publishing a series of mixed messages – some upbeat and some very negative. Her deputy headteacher Annette Patterson told the hearing there had been some incidents “in terms of relationship problems”: “There was an issue with regards to social media exchanges. The school dealt with that and there was a blocking of social media accounts between the two.”
