Two teenage girls have pleaded guilty to kidnapping a two-year-old girl from Primark. They were initially charged with kidnapping with the intention “to commit a sexual offence”, but the prosecution today accepted a plea to an alternative charge of kidnap. The girls – who cannot be identified for legal reasons – appeared at a youth court hearing in North Tyneside
The victim was the second child they had tried to grab from the store in Newcastle that day, having tried unsuccessfully to trick another little girl’s mother, an earlier court hearing was told.
The girls aged 13 and 14, from Tyneside, also admitted stealing dummies, a bottle and baby milk. They admitted leading the second toddler away from the store and taking her to a park three miles away at around 5pm on April 13.
Her disappearance sparked a frenzied city-wide hunt as police, retail staff and university security combed the city in search of the girl. Almost two hours later she was found by a police officer.
