After a washout start to August temperatures are set to soar in time for the weekend, so get your barbecues ready.Temperatures could reach as high as 28C this weekend, despite August beginning with half a month’s worth of rain in just 12 hours on Monday night. From Wednesday the clouds will lift on the southern and central parts of the country as the skies becomes clearer with sunny spells.
Temperatures are expected to climb to 24C in south eastern cities such as London and Cambridge and will rise as the week goes on to reach highs of 28C on Sunday.
Met Office meteorologist Emma Sharples said: “The warmest day will probably be Sunday but on Saturday we are looking at temperatures of 24C, 25C or 26C.
“If you go through towards Sunday the area that will see those temperatures will decrease slightly because the rain that’s in the north will sink southwards. However, areas across eastern England and south east England could see temperatures of up to 27C or 28C as a maximum.”
