Another departure is about to rock Albert Square as EastEnders bids farewell to another star.Nitin Ganatra – who has played Masood Ahmed for nine years – confirmed today that he will be leaving the BBC One soap later in 2016. “When I trained as an actor, I set out to play many different characters and never did I know that I would be so fortunate to have found a character that I have loved playing for nine years,” Nitin told the Radio Times.
“However, after thinking long and hard, I have decided that it is time to get back out there and take on some other roles. I will of course miss everyone at EastEnders – I have had a brilliant time there, and who knows, one day Masood may be back.”
His time in Walford has definitely been rocky – from his troubled marriage to Zainab (Nina Wadia) to his struggle to accept that son Syed (Marc Elliott) is gay.
His departure will mean that the Masood family have completely moved on from Albert Square – following Nina Wadia and Marc Elliott’s exits a few years back and Himesh Patel leaving in April. His departure follows the news that both Roxy and Ronnie Mitchell will be written out of EastEnders in a shocking storyline next year.
