Strong gales of up to 100mph are expected to wallop Britain with the arrival of the freak storm – with many predicting travel chaos at Christmas. And it’s beginning to look likely that another storm will strike in the aftermath of Storm Barbara as Storm Conor waits to disrupt Christmas Day.
Destruction and damage to property is expected throughout the lead-up to Christmas and may cause mass power cuts around the country. Storm chaos is expected to bring heavy gales and thundersnow to parts of the country, with the north-west UK and Scotland particularly affected.
The interaction of both storms could cause the two to merge into one when they come into close proximity. Meteorologists sometimes call the combining of two powerful cyclones the “Fujiwhara effect”. The UK coastguard have issued safety warnings ahead of the weekend asking people to prepare for terrible tidal conditions. An amber “be prepared” warning has been issued in many part of the country.
