Commuters across the country suffered nightmare journeys this morning after a series of train faults, signal failures, staff shortages and other issues led to delays. Southern was again at the centre of passengers’ fury as another strike brought more disruption to services.
A series of further walk-outs by guards and drivers over the coming weeks will cripple services again. London Underground is also facing strike action in a dispute over the closure of ticket offices.
Passengers’ misery was made worse by the sub-zero conditions, with temperatures throughout the country struggling to hit single figures; signalling problems, electrical faults and defective trains all contributed to frustration and chaos for travellers.
