A mum has been left paralysed after a rotting tree snapped and crushed her while she was lying in a hammock. Alyssa Pffanenstein was watching her four-year-old daughter play in a park with her boyfriend, Justin Janssen, when the freak accident happened.
The 25-year-old broke her neck and was unable to move – but managed to calm her frantic family down. She told CBS Local : “All of a sudden, this big boom hit me in the back of the head.” The incident happened in Bemidji, Minnesota, over the Labor Day holiday weekend.
In the 13 days since the freak accident, Alyssa has had surgery to remove the bone fragments from her spine and doctors are hopeful of a full recovery in time. “We just want to appreciate every miracle,” Janssen said. “Accidents happen and we will get through this like anything else.”
